چکیده

We are developing the Multi-Agent Self-Adaptive Cooperative Intelligent Real-Time Control Architecture (MASA-CIRCA) to address high-stakes, missioncritical, hazardous domains. (Musliner, Durfee, & Shin 1995; Musliner et al. 1999). MASA-CIRCA is a domain-independent architecture for intelligent, selfadaptive autonomous control systems that can be applied to hard real-time, mission-critical applications. MASA-CIRCA includes a Controller Synthesis Module (CSM) that can automatically synthesize reactive controllers for environments that include timed discrete dynamics. In order to best tailor its behavior to the current context, MASA-CIRCA will sequence through a number of different controllers, one for each phase of the mission (see Figure 1). This controller synthesis process can occur both offline, before the system begins operating in the environment, and online, during execution of phase controllers. Online controller synthesis is used to adapt to changing circumstances and to continually improve the quality of controllers for current and future mission phases. The

Simultaneous production planning and scheduling in a hybrid flow shop with time periods and work shifts

Simultaneous production planning and scheduling has been identified as one of the most important factors that affect the efficient implementation of planning and scheduling operations for the production systems. In this paper, simultaneous production planning and scheduling is applied in a hybrid flow shop environment, which has numerous applications in real industrial settings. In this problem...

Solving Time-critical Decision-making Problems with Predictable Computational Demands

In this work we present an approach to solving time-critical decision-making problems by taking advantage of domain structure to expand the amount of time available for processing difficult combinatorial tasks. Our approach uses predictable variability in computational demands to allocate on-line deliberation time and exploits problem regularity and stochastic models of environmental dynamics t...

Anticipating Computational Demands when Solving Time-Critical Decision-Making Problems

An agent embedded in a dynamic environment may need to respond in a timely manner to sequences of events outside the agent's control. By anticipating computational demands and allocating processing time accordingly the agent can avoid costly delays often arising from trying to respond to a dynamic environment with high-complexity decision procedures. Deliberation scheduling, the process of allo...

Deliberation Scheduling for Time-Critical Scheduling in Stochastic Domains

In this work we explore the use of deliberation scheduling for allocating computation among competing decision procedures in solving time-critical scheduling problems in stochastic domains. We present a two-level deliberation scheduling solution. At the higher level deliberation scheduling is used to partition innnite horizon scheduling problems temporally and sequence and allot computation tim...

Real-time Scheduling of a Flexible Manufacturing System using a Two-phase Machine Learning Algorithm

The static and analytic scheduling approach is very difficult to follow and is not always applicable in real-time. Most of the scheduling algorithms are designed to be established in offline environment. However, we are challenged with three characteristics in real cases: First, problem data of jobs are not known in advance. Second, most of the shop’s parameters tend to be stochastic. Third, th...

Stochastic Deliberation Scheduling using GSMDPs

We propose a new decision-theoretic approach for solving execution-time deliberation scheduling problems using recent advances in Generalized Semi-Markov Decision Processes (GSMDPs). In particular, we use GSMDPs to more accurately model domains in which planning and execution occur concurrently, planimprovement actions have uncertain effects and duration, and events (such as threats) occur asyn...
